What's A Scuff?
What's A Scuff?
Written by Dan Foster
Runnin’ On Scuffs officially launched less than seven months ago. A new creation that has quickly gotten its feet under itself and begun to grow. Before we get too far down the road, I figured I’d do a short introductory article for you to be able to meet our team and get to know a little bit about everybody involved. As has already been the case, over time, we will have team members come and go. I asked each of our Scuffs to answer a few simple questions to tell a little bit about ourselves.
We’ll start with our fearless leader.

Chief Scuff as we call him, grew up in Fulton, Mississippi watching racing with his dad, which sparked his interest in motorsports at a very young age. As he begin to learn more about meteorology, the more Justin wanted to become a storm chaser when he grew up. After realizing that just wasn’t the right fit for him, he turned his focus to motorsports broadcasting. After graduating high school he has continued his education at Mississippi State University with his degree in media and broadcasting. Unfortunately NASCAR does not have a Cup Series track in Mississippi, but Talladega, Alabama is less than 3 hours away, making Talladega Superspeedway is home track. With Martin Truex Jr. as his favorite driver, he has seen race victories and championship wins in the last 7 years.
Next we will introduce you to our other lead Dipstick.

Zachary Bell - Writer and Cohost (@zrbell98)
He and Justin have known each other for years and had discussed blogging and podcasting about NASCAR for quite a while prior to starting Runnin’ On Scuffs. Zachary is from Mansfield, Texas, making Texas Motor Speedway his home track. When Zachary was young, he loved Cheerios. Knowing that, his parents bought him a Cheerios Hot Wheels car (later realizing it was a NASCAR die-cast). On a random Sunday, he saw that same car in tv -‘d he was hooked. That led to his first favorite driver being John Andretti (pictured above, with little Zachary) who drove that Cheerios car at the time. After Andretti’s retirement, Zachary picked Denny Hamlin as his favorite and that includes Hamlin’s ownership in 23XI Racing.

Next up is our resident Florida Man.

Dan Foster - Writer and Cohost (@hillbillydan87)
Dan lives in the small town of Yulee, Florida. Being just 2 hours from Daytona International Speedway, he has gone to multiple races at his home track. Growing up, his entire family were Dale Earnhardt Sr. fans. They’d sit and watch the races every Sunday as Dan would reenact the action on track with his Hot Wheels NASCAR die-cast cars on the living room rug. He remembers the emotion of The Intimidator winning the 1998 Daytona 500, as well as the heartbreak of hearing Mike Helton announce the death of Dale following the 2001 race. Naturally his fandom moved over to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and all of Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. Over the last 20 years he has had favorite drivers come and go. He currently doesn’t have a favorite driver or team, but is a supporter of Team Chevy as he’s only ever owned vehicles built by GM.
On to the Stats Guy.
Mike Daffner - Photography Lead and Editor (@dynamike516)
Mike lives in Troy, Ohio, making Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course his home track. He, like Dan, grew up watching Dale Earnhardt race and win races with his dad. He however moved his fandom to the young man who was tasked with replacing a legend, Kevin Harvick. With his driver retiring after this season Mike will now face a tough decision on who to root for starting next season. Mike’s other passion outside of NASCAR is photography, having shot some amazing photos of wildlife and nature. Mike took his camera to the 2022 Bristol Night Race and took some of the photos we’ve used on the website. This was the first official race covered in person by Runnin’ On Scuffs.
Finally our newest addition.
Zach may not be on camera as much as the rest of our team, but he’s the man behind the scenes. Zach and Dan are from the same neck of the woods, as Zach is from Fernandina Beach, Florida. Making his home track Daytona International Speedway as well. Like the rest of the team, Zach became a NASCAR fan by watching it as a child, although for him it was with a friend of his dad. They’d sit and watch the races together on Sundays and talk about how everything worked. Over time he became a fam himself and has followed it closely. It won’t take you long to realize Zach is a fan of Chase Elliott and Hendrick Motorsports. To differentiate between Zach and Zachary, who both typically go by Zach, we will often refer to Zach Williams as Producer Zach.
