NASCAR penalizes Carson Hocevar, driver of the #77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports for violating the NASCAR Member Code of Conduct during Sunday's running of the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. The penalty comes after an incident between Hocevar and Harrison Burton, driver of the #21 Wood Brother Racing Ford.
On lap 242 of Sunday's race, Hocevar deliberately right hooked Burton under caution. The field had slowed to caution pace after Brad Keselowski spun into the wall after contact with Austin Dillon.
Carson Hocevar was fined $50K and docked 25 drivers and owners points by NASCAR. This penalty is the equivalent to a penalty that William Byron received for getting into Denny Hamlin at Texas Motor Speedway in 2022.
Hocevar finished the Ally 400 16th after the race that ended with a record five overtime attempts. The penalty drops Hocevar from 22nd to 24th in the regular season points standings. He currently sits 181 below the cutline for the NASCAR Playoffs.
Spire Motorsports will not appeal the decision made by NASCAR.
